Psalm 101

Psalm 101 (NLT)  A psalm of David.

I will sing of your love and justice, Lord.

I will praise you with songs.

I will be careful to live a blameless life–

when will you come to help me?

I will lead a life of integrity

in my own home.

I will refuse to look at

anything vile and vulgar.

I hate all who deal crookedly;

I will have nothing to do with them.

I will reject perverse ideas

and stay away from every evil.

I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.

I will not endure conceit and pride.

I will search for faithful people

to be my companions.

Only those who are above reproach

will be allowed to serve me.

I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house,

and liars will not stay in my presence.

My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked

and free the city of the Lord from their grip

Father. I want to serve you to the very best of my abilities, and I realize that I must have your help in everything so that I may be blameless before you.

I want to sing praises to you, God. I want to lift you up, inspired by your perfect justice and your unfathomable wells of love. But I am inadequate without your hand to set me feet upon the rock.

Help me, Father, to have integrity in my home beyond any accusation. Instill in me a deep desire to keep from looking at anything vile or vulgar and to keep myself from perverse ideas. Help me to model my life after your teachings, so that I may be separate from all evil.

Surround me with righteous people. Bring friends to my side who won’t leave me when I need them most. I am sick of arrogance permeating this society. I am sick of liars. Give me discernment in knowing what is truth and what are lies. Help me God.

I have faith in you. I know that you will answer my call, whether it be “yes,” “not now,” or “I have something better in store.” You said I can ask anything in your name. Hear me.

St. Anselm’s Prayer

Original Text:

O Lord my God,

Teach my heart this day where and how to see you,

Where and how to find you.

You have made me and remade me,

And you have bestowed on me

All the good things I possess,

And still I do not know you.

I have not yet done that

For which I was made.

Teach me to seek you,

For I cannot seek you

Unless you teach me,

Or find you

Unless you show yourself to me.

Let me seek you in my desire,

Let me desire you in my seeking.

Let me find you by loving you,

Let me love you when I find you.

~ St. Anselm

Personal Interpretation:

Dear Lord,

Please show me where you are today. Show me what You look like and what You like to do.

You created me, every part of me;  everything I enjoy about life is really a gift from You.

But I don’t know You; I don’t know why You’ve blessed me so much.

I haven’t done anything important yet. I haven’t found the work I’m supposed to do for the rest of my life.

Show me how to approach You because I don’t even know where to start.

I can only come if You show me how.

Can you show me how to follow?

Can I follow You until You show me?

I want to follow You so that I know how to love You.

I want to love You by following You.
